Real Wedding: Tengku Azura and Rahmat, Part I

Gorgeous, isn't it? This looks like a page right out of a magazine, if we may say so ourselves :)

Our bride, Tengku Azura, envisioned her big day in white winter theme, decked in gorgeous blooms in a lush setting and heavy with the scent of romance. What an honour to be given the privilege to bring her dream wedding to life! She and Rahmat held their wedding reception in the grand ballroom at The Westin Kuala Lumpur, photographed by one our favourite photographers, Yeh of Wondrous Vision. Thank you for the beautiful photos, Yeh!

Lilies are Tengku Azura's favourite flowers so we were sure to use plenty of them in the bridal table's centerpiece. The wonderful fragrance of lilies that filled the air was indescribable. Even though we wanted to fill the tops of these tall vases with lilies, we didn't want them to look squished together either, so we used white roses to fill the space between the lilies. Tendrils of white mathiola, slivers of silverleaf and delicate strings of crystal beads complete the tall arrangements.

The base of the centerpiece was covered in white blooms as well. Using more glassware filled with white lilies, white roses, silverleaf, mathiola, and white chrysanthemum "ping pongs", we achieved loads of texture and varying heights. Arranging all these different flowers in separate vases makes this a breeze to do. Add some white candles between the arrangements, and you've got all the right stuff!

One of the standout installations at this breathtaking reception were the white trees dripping with gorgeous mathiola that framed many a photograph taken that evening. These were real trees, towering at 12 feet and lining the aisle leading to the bridal table and the stage. In the top right photo, you can see Adrian trimming the bountiful baby's breath used to decorate the base of the trees. The height of the trees were important in achieving the effect we wanted; see how tall they are compared to Adrian?

We hung hundreds of mathiola on the branches and wrapped strings of orchid garlands around the tree trunks. Tea lights dangled from the branches at varying heights, and we simply couldn't wait for the lights to be turned down! The effect would be nothing less than magical, as you can imagine.

Here is another view of the bridal table and the stage in the background. We also provided the drapes and linens to ensure our bride's "strictly white" wishes were met.

Guest tables also featured centerpieces and all-white flowers. Pictured here are the tall arrangements (we also made low arrangements that you will see in Part II of this Real Wedding) filled with mainly roses, with a few lilies and white chrysanthemum "ping pongs". White mathiola, silverleaf and crystal beads complete the arrangement to tie-in with the arrangements featured at the bridal table.

Adrian is seen here, putting the final touches on the three-tiered wedding cake. We really enjoy using imported roses - just look at the sheer size of them compared to Adrian's hands! The stage is decorated with tall floor arrangements using white phalaenopsis orchids, roses and strands of orchids, while the white trees feature more orchid strands, white chrysanthemum ping pongs, baby's breath and hanging tea lights.

Real Wedding: Bernard and Michelle

Hi again, everyone! We have a new 'Real Wedding' to share. This is the wedding of Bernard and Michelle held at The Club At The Saujana. Our couple had a little ceremony by the hotel's cascading water feature, followed by an intimate dinner reception. Both events were decorated by Wishing Tree. We had a lovely time working with Michelle and Bernard on their special day and wish them all the best on their new life together!

Michelle and Bernard are a classy couple with a taste for simple elegance. They asked us to create the ambiance for their wedding using a mainly blue and white palette. Without further ado, here are some beautiful photos captured by our dear friends from Jim Liaw Photography.

Michelle's bridal bouquet was simply elegant and classy, much like herself. The combination of white dahlias and blue hydreangea was made a notch more interesting with champagne roses. It looks so soft and feminine, and, wrapped with just a wide, champagne-coloured satin ribbon, was perfect for Michelle. For her handsome groom, an elegant white dahlia!

While Michelle's bridesmaids brought some sandalwood fans to pretty up the outdoor reception, we made pomanders from white chrysanthemums and hung them on the white chiavari chairs lining the aisle. To add more texture and interest to the pomanders, we used white dahlias with stems still attached, wild berries and nosa (the marble-sized, spherical things at the end of the dahlia stems).

As we all know, weather is one of the biggest concerns for any outdoor wedding. This wedding wasn't completely outdoors as guests were going to be seated under shade while the solemnization would take place under the sun, with lush greenery and a little bridge as the perfect backdrop.

Unfortunately, while Michelle was getting her hair and make-up done, it started to pour. And it didn't look like it was going to stop any time soon. Ever so calm and graceful, Michelle came downstairs in her bathrobe and hair curlers and decided to move the ceremony to the covered patio nearby. If you look at the photo above - the one with Michelle and Bernard walking down the aisle - you will notice all the guests seated on one side while a water feature takes the other side. We all agreed it was really unique and, as luck would have it, looked even better than the traditional setting where guests sat on both sides of the aisle. On top of that, Michelle and Bernard got to walk down a much longer aisle, right next to a beautiful water feature. Double win!

The intimate wedding reception dinner was held in Zamrud Room at The Club At The Saujana. It is a rather old space, finished in dark wood walls and floors and had dark blue carpets that we could not remove. As such, special attention and care was given to the furniture, linens, flowers and decor to create the modern ambiance for Michelle and Bernard.

How do you think we did on the ambiance? We put our white chiavari chairs on double duty at this wedding - as seating for the wedding ceremony, and later for the reception. The white chrysanthemum pomanders also made another appearance this evening. One of the biggest wastage in weddings is flowers, and we love them too much to throw away after just one use. We will always try and find ways to reuse flowers for the same wedding if our couple has more than one venue to decorate. For our lovely couple, we gave them a little surprise at the dinner - by creating little napkin holders for the bridal table, using silver wire and pretty little nosa. So easy to make, and looks simply elegant too :)

When the lights turned down and the glow from the candles warmed the ambiance, the reception became one romantic evening. Balls of baby's breath and blue hydrangea arranged at varying heights on long-stemmed holders, surrounded by lower vases of white roses, white dahlias and white eustoma looked simply magical amongst the candles and silver moss.

With a small colour palette of white and blue (with a little bit of green to tie everything together), and not a whole lot of flowers on the table, we used blooms that were heavy with texture and added visual interest to the arrangements (various glassware, moss, beads and candles). This is something that you can definitely try to recreate on your own! If you do, we'd love it if you shared it with us :)

Real Wedding: Lina and Ashraf

Hi everyone!!! Wow... it has been months since our last update! Please forgive us for the lack of posts, it has been a whirlwind of events and weddings, especially since the second half of the year is usually an incredibly popular time for weddings in Malaysia. We have received some photos from our dear friends in the photo studios and wedding planning offices, so we are excited to share them with you in the coming weeks, starting now :)

We start with the nuptials of our dear couple, Lina and Ashraf. The wedding was expertly planned and coordinated by Lina's beloved cousin and wedding planning extraordinaire, Sherly Aziz of Tie The Knot. And of course, our many thanks to The Photoz for the wonderful pictures you will see in this Real Wedding post.

Wishing Tree was hired to decorate Lina and Ashraf's two-part wedding, the first being the nikah (solemnization of the marriage) where rings are exchanged and the marriage contract according to Islamic law is publicly declared and signed. This was held in an intimate setting at Felda Villa in Kuala Lumpur.

As you can see, Lina and Ashraf decided to go with a different direction from the usually elaborate and themed settings of Malaysian nikah ceremonies. Lina wanted an ambience and backdrop that was different and relatively modern, and while she left the details to her cousin Sherly, she wanted some purple and blue in the decor. Using glass vases and mirrored cube tables against and all-white background, from white drapes to the white récamier, the ambience is decidedly minimalist.

Our couple saved the best for last. Their wedding reception, held at Dewan Perdana Felda in Kuala Lumpur, was truly a sight to behold.

We absolutely love that we were able to create this stage and pelamin for Lina and Ashraf! The colours, the flowers, the lanterns and the sheer size of the trees... Breathtaking. If any of you have been to Dewan Perdana Felda, you would know how immense and vast the hall is. It was only fitting to have an equally impressive stage as a focal point.

Sherly told us that Lina had in mind a Chinese-inspired theme for her wedding reception. She loves the colour red, she has some Chinese ancestry on her mother's side, and she loves that there is so much one can do with a Chinese theme. Oh, the ideas were zipping around like crazy at the sound of the last part! It was a good thing Sherly was on hand to provide direction according to what she felt Lina would happy with.

Lina's bridal bouquet was lush with red tulips, maroon calla lilies and pink and red rose spray. We love Lina's gown for the evening! Look at that lace... that red satin sash... that red peony in the hair! Everything about her outfit oozes elegance, which perfectly reflects our bride. (Lina's gorgeous gown is from That Special Occasion.)

The lanterns hanging overhead frame their photos beautifully. We used four tall trees for the stage; trees that we harvested in the jungle, cleaned and spray-painted. Lina had initially wanted Shanghai-style silk lanterns for the trees, but they are not only too heavy for the delicate branches but also very expensive. And for this stage with four huge trees, the number of lanterns we would need and the cost would be staggering! These red and pink paper lanterns were perfect, to be honest, and probably more eye-catching.

Their Guest of Honour turned out to be His Royal Highness Raja Nazrin Shah, the Crown Prince of the state of Perak. For the U-shaped VIP table, we put together a simple yet very lush arrangement with red roses, red dianthus, champagne roses and white phalaenopsis, accented with gold beads and candles in hurricane jars.

We hope you enjoyed the photos from Lina and Ashraf's wedding! While Chinese-themed weddings are not uncommon and you can find lots of inspiration online, we hope this incredible use of lanterns (in only two colours, no less) hung from these tall, natural trees, can be another source of inspiration for you.. whether to use for your wedding or a party. It is just too eye-catching not to reuse!

Real Wedding: Reez and Ruzy

The wedding of Reez and Ruzy took place a little over three months ago, and we've finally received the photos! Thanks so much to our dear couple for sharing with us, and to The Whiteroom Kuala Lumpur for the wonderful snapshots.

Special thanks goes to our couple's wedding planner, Sherly of Tie The Knot for pulling together such an amazing wedding and making everything a breeze for not just the happy couple but also for all involved.

Here's the bride every wedding vendor secretly wishes for: She knows what she wants, yet trusts her wedding vendor with a free hand to create her vision for her big day and loves what she sees. It doesn't get any better than that!!

Our bride Ruzy had only two requests when it came to the wedding decor for both the nikah (solemnization) and dinner reception - she wanted an English-inspired ambiance, and a pink-and-yellow palette for the flowers. As always, your wishes are our command at Wishing Tree :)

Reez and Ruzy held their nikah (solemnization) ceremony at Kelab Darul Ehsan in Ampang Jaya, Kuala Lumpur. It was a simple yet elegant setting with drapes, fairy lights and carpeting. Using various shades of pink from roses to hydrangea, we decorated an arch for a photogenic backdrop. Tendrils of strung-up white dendrobiums with heart-shaped green chrysanthemum pom-poms gave it an air of girlish romanticism.

Our couple held their dinner reception at Dewan Perdana Felda in Kuala Lumpur. For the evening event, we paid close attention again to Ruzy's two wishes for her wedding decor, sprucing it up with more glamour while keeping it simple yet ceremonial.

Our bride was "over the moon" with the chandelier lamps, so we're told :) Florals in pinks and yellows, with white accents.

As with all Malay weddings, the pelamin (dais) for the new bride and groom to be introduced and where they would receive blessings from guests plays a big role. It is also the backdrop for the evening's festivities, and where portraits and photos with friends and family would be taken.

Real Wedding: Benjamin and Clarine

Inspirations for weddings can come from practically anywhere, a book, a design motif, nature, a painting, a music video - anything goes, as far as your imagination will take you.

Recently, we have been seeing weddings inspired by movies with elements of fantasy. We have had the pleasure to decorate a few such weddings ourselves! There was Pink and Ivan who celebrated their nuptials with a 'Midsummer Night's Dream' twist, and later threw a dinner reception inspired by 'Moulin Rouge'. From flowers to decor and the couple's outfits, no stone was left unturned! You absolutely can pull off any theme or concept you like; just be true to your personality and everything will fall into place. There are so many ways to interpret a concept that you never have to worry about sharing the same theme as another wedding.

Our couple Benjamin and Clarine held their wedding reception at The Ritz-Carlton Kuala Lumpur not too long ago, and to our delight, decided to do it up a couple of themes for their very special evening. Thank you so much for sharing your big day with us, we were very excited to bring to life your vision of 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Avatar', Benjamin-and-Clarine style!

We have some amazing photographs of the beautiful evening - a million thanks to Yeh of Wondrous Vision.

Most people think of a black, white and red color palette when one mentions 'Alice in Wonderland' - but Benjamin and Clarine's made it their own in purple and white. Our couple worked with events company Nupts & Such to create a chic and semi-casual ambience for a lively and intimate tea party in the reception area. What a fun and different idea!

Pompom-shaped purple alium provided some fun and whimsy to the ambience, while purple dendrobium, blue hydrangea, white roses and baby's breath provided added texture and layers to the mix. We love how simple the tables were done up with just a couple of bound books, antique clocks and a flowery table linen, and yet looked so effortless chic. The white Chiavari chairs by event designer La Flaire was just the right touch for this little tea party.

Our couple had a little corner for their junior guests to hang out at and have their own little tea party! Party hats, feather boas, giant playing cards...the little men and little ladies were well entertained until the adults were ready to sit down for dinner.

Inside the ballroom, it looked like a whole new world (like Pandora!). Benjamin and Clarine wanted an 'Avatar'-themed evening of celebration, not unlike Henry and Joveyn's, who also used the movie 'Avatar' for inspiration. However, for Benjamin and Clarine, theirs would be a little less jungle/sci-fi and a little more city.

What a vision!! We love our couple's elegant interpretation for their theme - all-white furniture and linens with centerpieces to take away one's breath. For the bridal party's table (above) we used a natural branch that featured two smaller branches becoming one - this was a special request from Benjamin and Clarine, which we thought was especially symbolic. Guest tables around the perimeter of the banquet room featured a single branch. All were decorated with white dendrobium, white eustoma, white roses, and blue and white hydrangea.

As you can see from the pictures, the decor was kept at a minimum with simple white drapes, linens and Chiavari chairs from La Flaire. At the same time, the simplicity of the set-up just worked. Don't be afraid to choose an all-white decor because it may not look stunning enough for your wedding photography, or feel like you need to use lots of accessories or ornaments to make the decor look less bare. With the right lighting, linens and flowers, let your personal style shine through for a completely memorable party!

Real Wedding: Tse Wen and Mayni

Time for another update!! We have been quiet for a while on the blog, and boy, have we missed posting pictures of weddings that have kept us excited, inspired, and definitely busy!

Congratulations to Tse Wen and Mayni who tied the knot in November last year and held their wedding dinner reception at The Westin Kuala Lumpur. Thanks so much for sharing your beautiful day with us and our readers! And of course to our friends at Jim Liaw Photography, without whom we wouldn't have these treasured memories captured in vivid detail.

The couple's wonderful wedding planners from Events Wizard and our team put together a fuchsia and white-themed dinner reception. From the stationery to florals, cake and even the bottled candy 'Thank You' gifts!

Our bride wanted and all-white bouquet with bling for accents. We loved her idea for an all-white bridal bouquet as hers would definitely stand-out in a sea of pink, fuchsia and red. So we put together some peonies, hyacinthus (or hyacinths) and roses. It is such a simple bouquet to put together, but don't you just love how it turned out so highly-textured and romantic?

Decor and details go a long way, no matter how small or simple. Tastefully done stationery, ribbons, elegant picture frames, candles...you can use them all! Just make sure they go with the theme, are neatly applied, and not overdone. Above are some pictures from the reception area. Everything is minimalist, with the exception of a huge vase bursting with pink roses and red mokara orchids as a focus piece.

A lush palette of red, pink, fuchsia and purple greets guests as they enter the great ballroom. The florals are simply yet beautifully arranged in tall glass vases, decorated with strings of crystal beads and displayed among a thick carpet of rose petals. Don't forget the candles! Candlelight, in any form, is always a winner for "dressing up" any floral arrangement, whether on a table or on the floor. Big candles, small candles, tall or short, it is entirely up to you. Later, some of these arrangements are transferred to guests tables as centerpieces. Yay for double-duty florals!

The landscape inside the ballroom of The Westin was dominated by Tse Wen and Mayni's three-tier wedding cake, and the centerpiece arrangement for the bridal table. We love that they kept their cake minimalist while letting the flowers bring the drama. Brides, this is a good tip for you - if you are planning for your wedding to feature bright colors, and lots of it, remember to keep your cake simple with as few colors as possible; you wouldn't want your wedding cake to be lost in a sea of color!

For the bridal table's centerpiece, we used a 3-feet tall ring stand and decorated with roses, carnations and baby's breath on the top tier, strung mokara orchids hanging down the sides with strings of crystal beads, and phalaenopsis orchids and limonium at the base. We also used lots of stringed pearls at the base of the ring for added texture.

Tse Wen and Mayni chose simple yet lush centerpieces for guest tables. What a pop of color in pink, fuchsia and purple! If you're looking for lots of color in your wedding florals, using glass vases works incredibly well for practically any type of theme or decor. However, colorful vases can also be used, like in this set-up at Thistle Port Dickson. But notice that the florals are the same type and color!

Real Wedding: Jou Wen and Hannie

Ever since Hannie and Jou Wen laid eyes on their friends' wedding reception at Carcosa Seri Negara, they knew their search for a wedding decorator was over. And that was how our lovely couple for this Real Wedding post came to us at Wishing Tree and allowed us to be a special part of the first day of the rest of their lives. Hannie and Jou Wen, thank you so much for sharing your big day with us!!

Our favorite photographers from Jim Liaw Photography were also at the wedding venue - The Club At The Saujana - to record the most memorable day of Hannie and Jou Wen's lives. Our couple fell in love with the venue when Ning Liaw of JLP showed them the place, as well as the work of JLP photographers who happened to work on many of the weddings that we have been able to feature on our blog.

This is probably the first time in the history of our humble blog that we have pictures of our team setting up at a wedding venue. "Behind the scenes" photos are rarely attractive, but we have to say... well done, JLP, for some awesome "on the scene" shots! :)

It was flowers galore at The Club At The Saujana!!! As you can probably tell by now that the color theme for this wedding was purple. It is one of Hannie's favorite colors - and what a beautiful pairing with the lush, verdant greenery of the grounds at The Club. In addition to bountiful arrangements along the bridge comprising lilac roses, purple eustoma, dendrobiums and Taiwan ivy, strings of orchids strung up on the trees provided an awe-inspiring backdrop for the wedding.

The Club's tiered water feature added much texture to the landscape of this outdoor wedding. The candles and oversized candlesticks are part of The Club's decor and were perfectly incorporated into the wedding decor.

Cockle shells painted in purple adorn the reception table and are a tribute to Hannie's father who runs a cockle export business. What a sweet and lovely touch! Hannie is quite the arts and crafts bride; she also handmade the flowergirls' corsages using ribbons and cloth, as well as the guest registration book.

Hannie's bouquet is an elegant arrangement of white peonies, purple eustoma and silver leaf, wrapped in a deep magenta satin ribbon. The wedding cake by Joanne Fam, in white fondant and pale lilac accents, is just perfect for this colorful wedding.

We really love how Hannie has involved her parents in her wedding. Her beautiful lace gown - handmade by Hannie herself (wow!) - was designed with the help of her beloved mother, a retired tailor, who also assisted with the beading work. We were shocked - in a good way - that Hannie finished making her gown in just two weeks! On top of that, the lace used on Hannie's gown was the very same lace that her mother used in her own wedding gown many years ago. What a beautiful way to honor one's mother at a wedding...

There is so much to be said of this wonderful couple who have included their elders in the biggest day of their lives. We wish you all the best and many happy years of love and laughter, Hannie and Jou Wen!

Real Wedding: Henry and Joveyn

Our couples never cease to amaze and excite us with ideas for their weddings. Henry and Joveyn are no exception, and you won't believe the theme they've come up with!

Natasha of The Peak Xperience, Henry and Joveyn's wedding planner, came to us with the concept for the couple's wedding reception at The Westin Kuala Lumpur, where our couple first met. And, like movie-goers around the world who went wild for James Cameron's sci-fi blockbuster, Avatar, we too were left rather breathless with excitement at the idea of an Avatar-themed party.

Thanks to the talented team at Fifoto Photography, we have some wonderful snapshots of this memorable, magical evening!

Lighting has become one of the most important elements in events and parties, especially for one like this - a wedding reception based on a futuristic, fantasy movie theme. It adds layers and complexity to the decor and ambiance, it envelopes guests and partygoers in the mood of the evening, and it makes everything look, well, simply gorgeous.

The concept for the decor is inspired by Pandora's 'Tree of Souls', which features six "trees" lining the aisle from the entrance to the main table. These trees played a double-duty role here, as they were also the centerpieces for the six tables along the aisle. The trees are made of iron, which doesn't sound too sexy, but they are strong and durable, and more importantly, won't lose a "branch" under the weight of candles, glass holders, flowers and other decorative elements.

The party was reflective of Henry techopreneurial personality as well as Joveyn's fashion-forward sense of style. To balance out the futuristic, sci-fi fantasy atmosphere, we used lots of soft lines in the floral arrangements with a variety of flowers such as phalaenopsis orchids, Banda orchids and hydrangea. The iconic Anya Hindmarch ribbon and Martha Stewart Weddings' "What Tree Did You Fall From?" inspired the design elements of the evening, embellishing everything from the backdrop to menus, table cards and place cards.

We really love the ambiance of our couple's wedding reception... so magical and full of fantasy and style! The florals in white and shades of blue, purple, violet and lilac, accompanied with white linens, fabulous lighting and attention to detail were the perfect recipe for an evening of gorgeousness. Well done, Henry and Joveyn, and thank you so much for letting us be a part of the most treasured event of your lives!

Real Wedding: Michelle and Hon

Is there anything more special and memorable than a perfectly-put together party? There's got to be something to be said about a wedding party that has all the details planned out - like today's chic wedding dinner reception of Michelle and Wye Hon, held at the PJ Hilton.

With the help and vision of their wedding planner Natasha, of The Peak Xperience, Michelle and Hon threw one of the prettiest, most stylish wedding receptions we've had the honor to be a part of for the year so far. All photos, of course, are courtesy of our favorite wedding photographers from Jim Liaw Photography - thank you so much!

Can you guess the theme that's going on here? Our bride wanted a black and fuchsia color theme that was understated yet feminine and sexy. This is Natasha's interpretation of "Chanel-inspired chic" that comes in a color palette of black, silver and fuchsia, with different shades of pink. Stationery for the evening was done in black flourish designs and the iconic Chanel quilt, as seen in the menu above. Place cards and table cards were also done in the theme colors with accents of fuchsia.

We love dessert bars at weddings, don't you? Michelle and Wye Hon had a fabulous dessert bar for the cocktail reception before dinner, aptly called 'Indulgence Bar' that was filled with their favorite snacks and candy. There were M&M's, Mars, cupcakes, marshmallows, lollipops...oh, sweet heaven!

Flowers for the evening were hydrangeas, roses and carnations in white and shades of pink. The centerpiece of the main table was customized with black Swarovski crystals arranged in a crisscross pattern to complement the theme as well as to symbolize Michelle and Wye Hon's initials.

Roses everywhere! On the stairs, on the stage, and on the wedding cake. Our couple's eight-tiered cake was definitely the tallest we had ever seen...yet it was simple, elegant and commanded quite a presence on stage. We love that the posies on the stairs and the stage were "double-duty arrangements", as we call them. Before dinner, the flowers were the centerpiece for each guest table in the ballroom. When the Chinese-style banquet commenced, the banquet staff brought the flowers up front to decorate the stairs and the stage for the cake-cutting ceremony and toasts later. We are a great believer of reusing so this was just wonderful!

Michelle and Hon - thank you so much for letting us be a part of your beautiful wedding. May the rest of your years together be filled with love, joy and laughter!

2011 Valentine's Day Promotion

Real Wedding: Mike and Jun Yee

One wedding, two color themes - especially for Mike and Jun Yee, our wonderful couple who tied the knot in Kuala Lumpur recently. They held both the wedding ceremony and their dinner reception at Bankers Club in the city center that had an amazing view of the city skyline.

Our bride didn't want to stick to just one color theme for her wedding. We say, hey, it's your big day so you get do whatever you like and however you want it! Our bride carried a bouquet with pink hydrangea, lady pink roses, white eustoma, and for a little edge - callia lilies in a deep orange rust, which gives her pink-themed bouquet a little "edge".

The bridal car was decorated with a flower ball made entirely of bright yellow orchids, together with white ribbons. We like that this was a different look from most bridal cars - for one, the color is quite unique in the sense that not many people use it for weddings, and especially not on a bridal car.

The Banker's Club foyer was decorated with vintage-inspired books, photo frames and patterns, as well as a custom-designed seating chart - a very lovely touch by Natasha of The Peak Xperience, our couple's wedding planner.

Yellow and white dianthus for flower balls, decorated with butterfly-shaped cards for well wishes. The guest book is one of the prettiest we have ever seen... and don't you just LOVE the feather pen??

Floor stands at a towering 7 feet tall dominate the reception and ceremony area, full, lush and bursting with rich orange and yellow hues with touches of pink and red. It is an unusual color palette but completely eye-catching! Blooms for these arrangements comprised of roses in red, dark orange and pale orange, yellow orchids, red dianthus, white dendrobium orchids and, for the crowning glory, fresh oranges.

For the wedding dinner, the main table for the bridal party looks regal with a tall arrangement bursting with large roses in orange, yellow and red with white mathiola that fills the space with a wonderful fragrance. We also used whole stalks of bright yellow calla lilies with matching yellow dendrobiums attached at the tips of the green stalks. There is such a fresh, energetic mood to the evening, yet maintaining a romantic and intimate ambiance.

Guests tables were decorated with arrangements consisting of Ferrero Rocher chocolates (not pictured), as well as small floral arrangements using only two stalks of yellow calla lilies and a few yellow orchids sticking out of a fresh orange. The oranges were great alternatives to sponges as a means of providing structure to hold the lilies and orchids. So simple, yet so pretty!

Real Wedding: Mark and Charmaine

Congrats, Mark and Charmaine! We are so honored to be a part of this beautiful wedding filled with gorgeousness and loads of pretty details. Thank you so much for sharing your big day with us.

Our friends at Jim Liaw Photography were the official photographers for Mark and Charmaine's wedding ceremony and dinner reception at Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa in Cyberjaya, and the ever talented team at Events Wizard planned this truly memorable wedding. We couldn't have asked for more brilliant people to work with for treasured occasions like these!

It must be said that our beautiful bride Charmaine played a huge part in setting the tone, mood and ambiance for the decor. How huge? She personally bought all the ornaments and decor items! Other than the invitation card in the top right photo that was designed by our bride and made in Malaysia, everything else was flown back to Malaysia from Germany where Charmaine and Mark reside. Charmaine tells us that the decor items were sourced mainly in Germany, and some in France. We are loving the lace, ivory satin and diamante button on the invitation - how elegant and sophisticated!

What's not to love about pearls and diamante? From strings of pearls to glass pebbles, candles and diamante stones to heart-shaped ornaments, Charmaine bought them all. And we helped to bring together her vision for a shimmery, sparkly wedding by dressing up the ornaments and by decorating with the loose objects, as well as florals, of course.

A pop of color is always chic and stylish, especially for an all-white wedding. Other than some colorful gerbera daisies for the reception table, our couple and their team at Events Wizard chose to use fun and bright colors at their Candy Bar. We love it a lot! The "cherry blossoms" provided by Cyberview Lodge were a lovely touch for this pretty garden wedding.

As the wedding party moved indoors to the ballroom for the dinner reception, the evening takes a glamorous turn, inspired by Charmaine's vast selection of ornaments and decorative items in a big way. Check it out...

The clear plastic baubles in the top photo is about the size of a golfball that twists to open. Inside were lovely chocolates for Charmaine and Mark's guests. The team at Events Wizards carefully put together the teardrop-shaped beads and attached them to each bauble. Talk about dedication! There is such a festive feel to the whole set-up you can't help but to feel the magic everywhere!

All eyes were on the main table, of course! Florals for the arrangements included roses, phalaenopsis, eustoma, dianthus and Taiwan ivy, while little cones of baby's breath decorated with pearls, crystals and glass beads added more texture and dimension.

The amount of pearls, glass beads and glass pebbles were staggering - they arrived in jars, and we definitely had fun with them! The top right photo features one of the several cones we made, topped with sizeable "diamond" - one of four that Charmaine had bought. What a delightful detail to decorate with!

In addition to all the pearls, crystals, glass beads, pebbles and other ornaments, Charmaine also bought organza rosettes which we used to decorate the chair-backs at the main table. The strings of beads hanging from the chandelier and the ceiling were provided by Cyberview Lodge - they really help to complete the ambiance for the evening don't they?

For the bride who isn't sure how she would like her wedding to look like, don't worry. If you're able to get together items that you really like and have some idea of a theme, they can really help to shape a direction and vision for your big day. It worked for Charmaine and it could surely work for you :)

Real Wedding: Jessie and Mac

Our heartiest congratulations to our wonderful couple, Jessie and Mac! Our beautiful bride's vision for a purple-themed wedding is a sight to behold at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur's ballroom, bathed in warmth and love, exuding a cozy ambiance for several hundred family members and friends. We have many beautiful shots of this breathtaking evening, captured expertly by our friends at Jim Liaw Photography - thank you so much.

Jessie and Mac, thank you for entrusting us with the most important first day of your lives together and for letting us at Wishing Tree play such a big part of your celebration. Also, for sharing your wedding with our readers! Now, onwards to the photographs!!

A grand wedding like Jessie and Mac's couldn't be complete without a grand entrance lined with these walkway stands. Tall enough to impress but not too tall to overwhelm! We used sturdy white branches for these stands, and piled on the blue hydrangea, dark purple eustoma, pink dianthus and lilac roses, with simple ornaments of hanging tealights on white satin ribbons and a touch of green ivy. As Jessie wanted an effect of "city lights" for the reception, we added rattan balls to the ceiling, decorated with fairy lights for a little extra magic.

Every one of the over 60 guest tables in the ballroom featured a beautiful centerpiece. We created two types of Jessie and Mac - a tall centerpiece for the tables immediately circling the couple's main table, and lower centerpieces for the others. Other than purple berries and purple and white alliums for the lower centerpieces, all guest table arrangements comprised of lilac roses, dark purple eustoma, purple limonium, pink dianthus and calla lilies.

And of course, the masterpiece for the new bride and groom's table. Three large cylinder vases dominate the tablescape with lush blooms, gorgeous textures and rich purple hues with specks of red. Instead of arranging the stalks of calla lilies in the vases, we let them hang outside... Which was great for attaching the tiny mokara orchids and crystals at the ends! In addition to detail, another important aspect of floral design is dimension, don't you think so?

We also did a something different with the bride's and groom's chairs by decorating with long stalks of white allium, ivy and ribbons. As the evening progressed, purple lighting filled the room. Together with lit candles, the ambiance and mood are nothing short of romantic, cozy and magical!

Real Wedding: Caroline and Greg, Part II

Welcome back to Caro and Greg's wedding at The Club At The Saujana! This wedding is just filled with so much gorgeousness we don't know where to begin. Well, we could start with the amazing photos - taken by Jim Liaw Photography, of course. Our deepest gratitude for the beautiful memories captured!

After Caro and Greg's intimate garden ceremony, held a couple of hours before sunset, the wedding party moved indoors where a romantic, elegant banquet was held.

The evening was filled with warmth and intimacy, decked out in blooms of white and green, dark wood furniture...and a lot of candles!

We used several types of flowers for the evening reception - all white, all romantic and textured. In the top picture, you can see roses and cymbidium orchids. The bride's bouquet comprised of eustoma, roses and phalaenopsis orchids. And in tall glasses filled with water, more cymbidiums!

This tabletop arrangement was a real feast for the eyes. It is actually a counter top that separated the open cooking area from the formal dining area - and it provided for an amazing backdrop for the evening. The wooden candlesticks and hurricane candle holders were the Hotel's, and suited the decor perfectly. It's always such a pleasure to be able to use original decor items from the venue itself.

As this was a small and very intimate and warm dinner reception, we used low table arrangements on guest tables so everyone could see and chat with one another. We don't need guests to keep peeping left and right throughout dinner to speak with someone sitting just across from them!

To keep the cut flowers upright and in their place, we filled the glass vases with OPP plastic pieces. These also look great for texture as they look like little chunks of ice, which also reflect more light off the tealights and mirrors.

Congratulations once again, Caro and Greg!! May your marriage be filled with the laughter, love, warmth and joy that infused your wedding so beautifully. And thank you for sharing your treasured life event with us!

Real Wedding: Caroline and Greg, Part I

Garden or outdoor weddings are increasingly gaining popularity in Malaysia despite our weather, and couples are always on the search for the "perfect" lawn on which to celebrate their union. Unless you know of a private home or estate with a spacious, landscaped garden, your only other choices are the hotels and resorts here.

One of our favorite places, and relatively little known among Malaysians is The Club at The Saujana - a boutique hotel situated next to The Saujana Hotel Kuala Lumpur, that prides itself on luxury, exclusivity and privacy. Here is where Caroline and Greg's wedding took place.

The low trees and plants in the well-manicured garden were perfect for a cozy, intimate and romantic wedding. It's always important to have greenery at eye-level so a garden decor set-up looks good. Of course, any garden wedding needs a great photographer to capture all the loveliness and the details! For Caro and Greg's wedding, we have Jim Liaw Photography to thank... as always!

The vast amount of greenery at The Club at The Saujana made it very easy to bring Caro and Greg's vision for a white and green theme to life. From the white chiavari chairs in the ceremony area to the white roses on the bridge, as well as the backdrop of lush white dendrobiums, jasmine, ribbons and pearls dripping from the trees.

If you look closely at the first picture, you will see a huge clay pot on either side of the bridge. These were filled with supersized jungle ferns that were rolled into tall cones. They were literally sourced from the jungle just for this wedding!

Lining the aisle and giving off a lovely fragrance are the handmade jasmine and dendrobium pomanders, attached to chairs with tuber roses. And in the blue paper cones, white rose petals for guests to shower upon Caro and Greg as they pass.

As the wedding ceremony was held in the evening, we placed candles and tealights on the bridge and hung more tealights to the tree with white ribbons, all to be lit when the sun began to go down. It was quite a magical evening as you can imagine!

Our beautiful bride Caroline chose a white bouquet to go with the theme. We went with "romantic" and textured blooms, wrapping white eustoma, white roses and white phalaenopsis orchids with deep green leaves and an elegant white ribbon.

To each her own bridal bouquet

Do you remember bridal bouquets of the past? If you can remember that far back, about 10 years and beyond, all we had here were roses or carnations with sprigs of baby's breath or something similar. No one remembered or cared about what brides carried in their nervous hands.

The bridal bouquet does more than give you something to do with your hands; it is the crowning glory for your outfit!

No matter your style, you will always be able to find the flowers, colors and arrangements that best suit your personality and the theme of your wedding. All you need is a little forethought and planning, as your favorite flowers may be seasonal and may not be available for your wedding date.

Here are some of our recent bridal bouquets, which we hope can give you an idea of how different the styles and mood can be, and what kind of bride you would imagine when you see their bouquets :)

Our bride, Gan Eng, chose to carry a round bouquet (known as "nosegay") of soft pink peonies, pink parrot tulips and pink eustoma - sweet and romantic just like our bride! Peonies are a traditional Chinese symbol of the happy marriage, and tulips represent "the perfect lover".

If you wish to use peonies for your wedding, remember that they are seasonal and available from May to June and October to December. Tulips, on the other hand, are available all year round but they will require advanced reservation.

For our bride Jun Yee, who chose a Classic English theme for her wedding, she carried an elegant bouquet of lady pink roses and pink hydrangea with a touch of white eustoma and a modern twist with rust orange calla lilies.

Calla lilies represent a majestic beauty, and its unique shape and color is wonderfully used as part of a monochromatic color palette mixed with other flowers of different shades. The combination of flower types truly tantalizes the eye with its textures while maintaining its sweet, romantic mood with a contemporary touch. All flowers in this bouquet are available throughout the year and easy to obtain.

Caroline chose an all-white theme with a touch of green for her classic European wedding - a theme that is mirrored in her bridal bouquet as well. Comprising white roses, white eustoma and white phalaenopsis, Caroline's quiet elegance and beauty is also represented in her romantic bouquet. The flowers in this bouquet are also available all year round.

This bouquet is a little bit different, as it represents both the bride and her groom! Our bride Melissa loves the color green, while her groom loves red.... and we are more than happy to create this special bridal bouquet for the wedded couple. For Melissa's bouquet, we used maroon peonies, white rananculus and African green brazelia for a unique twist. Again, peonies are seasonal and are available from May to June and October to December, while the rananculus and African green brazelia and available all year round.

Caring for your bouquet:
To keep your bouquet looking fresh before your big day, place your bouquet in a vase of water and store in a cool place and in an upright position. During the wedding, spraying your bouquet occasionally will help prevent the flowers from wilting in our hot and humid weather!

Real Wedding: Janice and Desmond

Congratulations, Janice and Desmond! Thank you for letting us be a part of your big day and sharing your wedding with us at the Wishing Tree Blog. Big thanks to Jim Liaw Photography for capturing the lovely pictures.

Janice and Desmond's wedding dinner reception at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur was a picture of romantic, lush elegance.... like the equally elegant bride and groom. Janice was clear about the ambiance and colors she had imagined for the perfect evening reception - a romantic autumn filled with rich, deep hues of reds and maroons, a touch of peach and green. Oh, what lush ideas!

The centerpiece was a sight to behold, especially against a warm, "golden" backdrop that was easily accomplished with fairy lights and white linen. Touches of white from organza ribbons, candles and the elegant wedding cake really brought the whole theme together.

Deep red, maroon and peach-colored roses were the stars of the centerpiece, but it was the dendrobium orchids and Anne Black orchids that gave it the winning edge - we love how the tiny Anne Black orchids trail down and around the centerpiece and provide so much texture. Plump cymbidium orchids were arranged on the table together with Salix branches, lots of deep maroon rose petals, candles and even more Anne Black orchids... So much gorgeousness and texture all around!!

If you thought you saw peaches in the centerpiece - you were absolutely right! Fresh and sweet-smelling, the peaches are the perfect complement for the color palette and to "lighten" up the autumnal ambiance.

The entrance to the ballroom was done up a little bit differently, thanks to Janice's creative input. She did not want the usual flower arch for the doorway. So we created a beam made of branches and decorated with Taiwan ivy and Anne Black orchids. We hung white organza panels from the beam and secured them with posies made from deep red and maroon roses and Anne Black orchids, which were also strung up and put on the organza. We loved the rustic mood of this floral entrance. And lining the walkway of the ballroom - lush floral stands, dripping with Taiwan ivy and organza ribbons, crowned with big, beautiful roses and lots of candlelight. It's like a grown-up version of Midsummer Night's Dream, but in the autumn!

So, friends, readers, and brides-to-be - don't be afraid to use just one color for your event, whatever the color may be. Whatever you choose is bound to make a sure statement. Just remember to trust your floral designer to create the best ambiance for you and be open with him or her when it comes to ideas :)

Real Wedding: Ronnie and Sue Ann

There's something very majestic and passionate about the color purple, isn't there? Recently we were hired to decorate the wedding reception of Ronnie and Sue Ann at Hilton Kuala Lumpur, and our beautiful bride requested a purple and white theme... much to our delight!

While our dear friend Michelle (of Michelle Wedding Consultants) and us prepped for the evening, the talents from The Photoz snapped the pictures.

The foyer area outside the Hilton KL ballroom was decorated with tall, uncomplicated arrangements in the shape of ring stands - all ten of them. Here we used lots of white daisy pompoms, white roses, white feathers and dark purple Vanda orchids.

Ronnie and Sue Anne displayed huge canvasses of their beautiful pre-wedding photos in the foyer, which gave the cocktail reception an "art gallery" atmosphere. In that mood, we created an "art piece" arrangement for their guest reception table. We have never done anything like this before, but it was a lot of fun to make and included a couple of unconventional items!

Among the roses, green moss and snake grass, we used long green beans as well! See that green ball in the top left photo? That's made out of long green beans :) And in the top right photo, we hand-made the white netting with pearl beads and draped it carefully over the modern arrangement.

We spent a whole day making the white netting that measured 5 feet x 1 feet. How was it done? With a glue gun (with white glue, of course) and a bathtub of cold water! Squeeze the glue onto the surface of the water in the pattern of your choice, let it harden, then lift it out carefully. Once it has dried completely, glue on your favorite beads and crystals or whatever you fancy, and you're done!

Lush florals lined the aisle in the ballroom, the numerous 2-tier stands decked in dark purples, blues, dark pinks and a pop of white and green. We used wine-colored hydrangeas as well as lilac, blue and green, dark purple eustoma, white roses, green dendrobiums, green apples as well as green and clear crystal beads.

A look at the colors in its natural state, without all the colorful ballroom lighting. Aren't they beautiful! These colors look amazing for a day-time ceremony or reception too.

For the main table's centerpiece, a lush and romantic setting with a refreshing touch of fruit. Here you can find purple phalaenopsis orchids, green, blue and wine-colored hydrangea, green dendrobium and hanging green amaranthus.

We had planned for the apples to be piled into small, short vases and not tall ones, but the catering staff had removed them after the previous party and did not bring them back for this party! So we made do :) Do you think it worked just as well with the tall vases??

The beautiful wedding cake, decorated with simple adornments of white roses and purple Vanda orchids... We like this "whimsical chic" a lot!

Photoshoot at Thistle Port Dickson and DIY Ideas

A few months ago we did two photoshoots for The Wedding Book, Vol. 4 that came out on the stands in February this year. The photoshoots were as different as can be - one was an outdoor beach wedding at Thistle Port Dickson using exotic blooms, the other was an indoor shoot in a 5-star hotel in the city with air-conditioning, which we will do post on a little later.

In spite of the different locations, themes and colors, both set-ups share some similarities. For one, they are simply chic without breaking the budget, and both feature DIY projects you can do on your own or with friends and family that don't take up a tremendous amount of time and effort. There's a little bonus for brides who want to do their bit for the environment - continue reading to find out how you can use recycled and recyclable materials in your wedding decor!

The ceremonial area is decked in refreshing lime green and white - it is always a great combination whether indoors or outdoors, which makes this a very versatile color theme. Romantic or whimsical, classic or contemporary... the choice is really up to you! Here, we've decided to keep it chic and minimal but lush with thick garlands and lots of blooms. We'd like to think you can keep your flower arrangements in a minimalist style but lush as well.

For this theme we used white roses, white phalaenopsis orchids, white and green dendrobium orchids, lime green spider mums (of the chrysanthemum family), green chrysanthemum pompoms and echeveria succulents.

To balance out the large flowers on the furniture, we used smaller, delicate-looking blooms in vases on tables, wrapped around trees and draped on other props in the environment. Here, we used dendrobium orchids and Dancing Lady orchids.

The cocktail reception after the ceremony features a burst of vibrant colors to help change the mood, to transition from the "serious" part of your wedding to the fun, beach party that you always wanted. This is where we have done some DIY projects with recycled and recyclable materials. Understandably, not everyone gets excited about these projects because they take up time and effort, and you may not always be able to recruit friends and family to help. But these projects are ridiculously easy to do, and best of all, you can do it all on your own if you're up for it!

See those colorful eggshells and vases with colored wires? They are so easy to do we probably don't need to get into the details with you,

Okay, maybe just a little bit. If you are planning to do DIY projects for your big day and want to be environmentally friendly, you should start a few months ahead of time to collect enough eggshells and bottles. We used six dozen eggs here, give or take. Remember to make extra in case your eggshells don't survive the trip to the beach.

Just because we used wine bottles for our DIY project it doesn't mean you have to. You can use any kind of glass bottle for this project, whatever the shape, size or color. Consider olive oil bottles, designer water bottles and liquor bottles. You can also go with a more structured theme by using just one color of wire or the same color glass, etc.

While we're still on the subject of glassware - how about saving or collecting unwanted glass jars and mugs for vases and candle holders as well? If you're the kind of person who saves used glassware to begin with, we can't think of a better way to make space in your cabinets (for your friends and family too) and to show your support for Mother Nature. Put them on tables, along walkways, by the pool, in the sand, or strung up in trees and umbrella stands...there are so many wonderful possibilities!

Don't worry if there aren't any sansevieria plants to stick on your eggshells on. You can use branches and twigs (in bottles and jars full of sand) or arrange them on decorative plates, around tableware, or pile them together with pretty stones and pebbles in neat (or messy) heaps.

Although we have painted our eggshells different colors, feel free to paint them all in one color if that's what you like. You can paint them to match the theme of your party either in its theme's colors or designs and patterns.

For a little mood lighting, how about some candlelight in a cup? You can buy these cheaply (if you're buying, go with paper) or save all those plastic cups from your stag and hen nights, bridal showers or parties for this very easy-to-do DIY project. You can use clear or opaque cups, even colored ones. The glow from the candlelight will do the rest. Just fill these cups with sand for weight, wrap with ribbons, drop a tealight into each cup, light it up, and you're good to go!

Just look at those lights, what a beautiful glow! If you don't like the look of a plain plastic or paper cup, simply wrap them up with paper doilies or colored paper and secure with ribbons or twine. Easy peasy :)

Real Wedding: Christina and Chun Hou

Congratulations to our bride Christina and her husband, Chun Hou, who were married towards the end of last year. They held their wedding reception at Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur, which Christina planned all the way from London, and without the help of a wedding planner! Well done, Christina!

We have a few photos to share from the evening wedding reception; many thanks to Zung of The Photoz.

This is the second white-and-green themed wedding reception we are featuring in a row. In the previous post, we have Paula and Andy's wedding held at Bankers Club in Kuala Lumpur. While Paula and Andy's wedding was done up in a more contemporary style, Christina and Chun Hou went for a classically romantic evening, with full, white blooms, warm lighting and romantic candles.

The main table is magnificent with a lush centerpiece that is not overly done. Pillar candles and round candles together with flower balls placed around the centerpiece for an ornate feel, while lighting from the chandelier and the multitude of candles casts a magically romantic mood on the wedding reception.

Real Wedding: Paula and Andy

Hi everyone! Happy New Year 2010!!! We can't believe another year as gone by. That means the Wishing Tree Blog has been up and running for a year already! We want to thank all our readers, friends and clients who have been dropping by and letting us know how much you love our blog - it means so much to us. We've had a very busy few months, as it is peak weddings season in Malaysia, and, with Valentine's Day and the first day of Chinese New Year falling on the same day this year, it is definitely an interesting time in our studio.

We also have a line-up of weddings to blog about, and first on our list is Paula and Andy's wedding, held at Bankers Club in Kuala Lumpur. Special thanks to weddings and events planner, Natasha of The Peak Xperience, and to Sam Leong of Keep Gallery for the photos!

For our lovely bride, we created an elegantly chic bouquet of green cymbidiums, white tuberoses and green eustoma.

Paula and Andy, both from Kuala Lumpur, wanted something refreshing and simple, yet elegant and classic. Since Paula loves green apples and wanted to give them away to guests at the ceremony, the colour palette of green and white seemed to be the perfect choice for our modern couple.

Paula loved her bouquet very much, as do we! Green apples for their 180 guests add a touch of whimsy that is both decorative and edible - extra points for double duty props!

For the reception table, a centerpiece with green hydrangea, white eustoma, green helicopter stems and white dendrobium.

One of the things that stood out the most to Andy and Paula was the staircase that connected the two floors of the penthouse unit where Bankers Club is located. Paula tells us, "The first thing that caught our eyes was the amazing staircase. Andy stood there and admired it for a while!"

For the staircase, we used green hydrangea, white satin ribbons and thick garlands of dendrodium orchids. The same theme is used throughout the wedding decor, for the chairs as well as the flowergirl's flower ball.

Real Wedding: Siok Chin and Kevin

As busy doctors living and working in Singapore, with very little time to plan their big day, it was extremely important for Siok Chin and Kevin's wedding planner Michelle (of Michelle Wedding Consultants) and us to get everything right.

We can't emphasize enough how exceedingly grateful we are for the Internet, to be able to plan a wedding through e-mail correspondence. Our couple, despite their hectic schedules at the hospital, were quick and decisive, which made a huge difference. It was also incredibly helpful as well to have Siok Chin's dear mum in KL to oversee the details and planning.

And so, here we are, with treasured memories of Siok Chin and Kevin's wedding, snapped by Zung of The Photoz. Congrats on your wedding and thanks for sharing with all of us at the Wishing Tree Blog!

Pink, white and green made up the colour palette for the wedding ceremony at Wesley Methodist Church in KL. Our beautiful bride carried a sweet, elegant bouquet of pink hydrangea, white tulips, Lady Pink roses and green amaranthus, tied together with white lace and white feathers.

For her bridesmaids, pretty bunches of white and dusty pink roses.

One of the decor highlights of the church wedding was this floral doorway arch that framed Siok Chin's grand entrance and provided for many great shots by Zung. We used plenty of white dendrobiums and Lucy pink orchids, white feathers, white ribbons and shiny bell!

The wedding dinner reception was held at Mandarin Oriental Kuala Lumpur. From the soft, sweet colours for the daytime, we take on a dramatic turn for the evening with pink, purple and blue.

We used lots of flowers for this look! On the main table, the arrangement featured blue hyndrangea, lilac roses, purple eustoma, pink cymbidium orchids, Lucy pink orchids, with lace, light pink candles and strings of crystals. How lush!

To think, 10 years ago you couldn't order any of these flowers here...oh, how times have changed :)

Real Wedding: Angie and David, Part II

The Chinese-style wedding banquet was done up in the beautiful, vibrant colours of Spain - in red, orange and yellow, with lots of fresh lemons in the arrangements.

Of course, plenty of candles for a warm, romantic glow!

More Baby's Breath, but this time to complement the bright red, orange and yellow colours.

We really enjoyed working with this theme, and it isn't often that we get to combine these strong, vibrant colours. We hope this inspires you to get colourful, creative and adventurous with your wedding . Thank you so much, Angie and David, for sharing your big day with us!

Dear readers.... We have a new blog post, and it's about time! Today we bring you the wedding of Angie and David in Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa. Thank you, Zung of The Photoz for the pictures!

Our Malaysian Chinese bride and her Spanish husband live abroad so most of the planning was done via e-mail, handled expertly by our friend Michelle of Michelle Wedding Consultants. Our couple live and work in the city and travel often for work, which inspired their decision for a tropical garden wedding in a relaxing, resort atmosphere, away from the city's bustle.

We love that Angie and David incorporated elements of their Malaysian Chinese and Spanish cultures into their wedding, from decor to programs and ceremonies. Cyberview Lodge provide the lush, tropical garden ambiance of Malaysia - perfect for a touch of rustic charm, using the delicate Baby's Breath. This was a great opportunity to use Baby's Breath as primary flowers instead of as fillers.

For the wedding ceremony, we used a simple and cheerful palette of white and yellow - which represents the lemon, which is one of Spain's biggest exports.

Baby's Breath is very versatile to work with, it holds up well in the heat and humidity of our weather, is available all year round AND goes with virtually any color palette. We also adore it for its sense of femininity in a rustic, romantic way.

Real Wedding: Joanne and David, Part II

We hope you managed to check out Part I of Joanne and David's daytime wedding ceremony in a pretty garden set-up on the lawns of Hotel Equatorial Bangi.

The same evening, our newlyweds held their wedding dinner reception at the hotel. The ballroom was also decorated to exude a romantic, playful garden atmosphere. Many thanks to Jim Liaw Photography for the pictures!

This above shot of the white birdcages and the burst of color from the beautiful flowers is a picture of pure joy. As with the garden wedding ceremony in the daytime, we used hydrangea, Mariam pink roses, Taiwan ivy and fruit for the VIP table centerpiece, adorned with pretty pink butterflies.

Since it was romantically dark in the ballroom, we used darker, sharper shades of pink that would stand out better in the spotlights and in dim candlelight. Leave the lighter hues for the daytime, or they will look quite washed out when the lights are turned down.

We love the magical effects of good lighting! Whether it is from colored spotlights, fairy lights or candles and tealights, the indoor "garden" looks almost as good as it would be outdoors, doesn't it? Using a good quantity of green leaves is essential for this theme, instead of just flowers and more flowers. So if you are planning a garden theme for your wedding, don't be afraid to ask your decorator to whip out his or her stash of leaves and moss.

It's a bright and beautiful day in the Klang Valley, just PERFECT for a garden wedding. And that is just what we have for you today - a picture perfect outdoor wedding on the verdant green grounds of Hotel Equatorial Bangi in Putrajaya.

Congratulations to Joanne and David who recently tied the knot. Thank you for sharing with us and our readers the lovely details of your big day, beautifully captured by our good friends at Jim Liaw Photography and planned to the T by Michelle of Michelle Wedding Consultants.

Above is a close-up of the flowers on the registration table. Can you guess what the wedding looks like? Let's see, we have shades of pink, butterflies, lots of leafy greens and flirty florals... It is very feminine, girly and romantic, just like our beautiful bride.

Our sweet, blushing bride wanted a garden atmosphere for her garden wedding and she loves pink. So we picked out imported hydrangea, eustoma, and Mariam pink roses, as well as Taiwan ivy and moss to add more green to the arrangements, white branches, pink butterflies and a bit of fruit!

The soft, floaty fabric of our bride's gown is just gorgeous for a garden wedding, not to mention light and airy for our hot, humid weather. We love that she has chosen clean, elegant lines for herself, her flower girls and her bridesmaids, in white and in soft pink, while allowing the textures and colors from the flowers to add dimension to the fashion. Clever! BALANCE is such an important element in weddings and we're glad our bride and groom have an excellent grasp of it :)

Joanne and David - thank you for putting your trust in us to create this ambiance for the most important day of your life, after only one meeting and doing the rest via e-mail. What on earth would we do without the Internet?? We hope you enjoyed your garden wedding as much as we enjoyed decorating it for you.

Real Wedding: Tracy and Lik Khai

Hi everyone, we're back with another wedding to share! Earlier this year, we decorated Tracy and Lik Khai's wedding dinner in Sunway Lagoon Resort. Here's the catch - as our couple do not live in Malaysia, all the planning and design for the decor was done through their wedding planner Poh Lin of I Do Weddings. Does that sound pretty tough? When you're working with a planner like Poh Lin and a couple who pretty much know what they want, things get done the way they're supposed to :)

The band strikes up some catchy 1940s and 1950s Shanghai jazz - our couple's favorite kind of music. Can you guess what the theme was?

Tracy and Lik Khai chose a modern Oriental theme, using a color palette of purple, lilac, white and a touch of pink. We love that our couple isn't afraid to use their favorite colors for a theme that is usually done up in red. But of course, how could we resist? As you can see, there's a pop of deep red from beautiful, fresh peonies!

For the main table, we used traditional Chinese birdcages for the centerpiece, adorned with peonies, eustoma, hydrangea and pussy willow. How's this for a modern Oriental theme with old-world charm and "new world" florals?

Lining the aisle for our couple's grand entrance were twelve 7-feet tall stands - heavy with hydrangea, eustoma and roses, and dripping with sparkly glass beads and dendrobium. We love how lush the floral stands looked, especially with the strings of tiny white flowers and green leafy tendrils... they look almost magical, fairtytale-like, don't they?

Did we mention the wedding dinner was for 1,400 guests?? That's 140 tables in one great ballroom, and an impressive wedding feast. Congrats to Tracy, Lik Khai and Poh Lin for pulling this off beautifully and perfectly!

Real Wedding: Azmar and Michel

We have been waiting anxiously to share the gorgeousness of Azmar and Michel's wedding reception held at Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur recently. It's one of those weddings that look so effortlessly luxurious and then surprise you with the simplicity of it! Congratulations and thank you so much for letting us share in your wonderful celebration.

Many thanks to our friends, Leticia Hsu of Events Wizard who planned this luxuriously intimate evening at Carcosa Seri Negara, creating magic as always, and Jim of Jim Liaw Photography for capturing the magic.

The two pictures above hint at what is to come in terms of the colours for our couple's wedding reception. Red is a popular colour in Asian cultures especially among the Chinese for its symbolic good luck, and among other communities for its "festive" mood. It is also the colour of romantic passion. Red is an intense colour whatever the shade, so it is commonly paired with a lighter, neutral shade such as white, ivory, silver, or matte gold. But of course, it isn't always so. Imagine our excitement when Azmar, Michel and their wedding planner, Leticia, came to us with a 'Rouge Noir' theme of red and black!

Mention "red and black" and you might imagine a dark, edgy ambiance along the lines of a 'rock and roll' or goth theme. But take a look at Azmar and Michel's reception and see how you can rock the red-and-black combination for an elegant evening to remember.

We would even call it casual elegance, simple yet tastefully playful, not to mention romantic as well. Jim describes his photoshoot with the easy-going, charming couple as immersed in "quiet elegance", which perfectly matched their personality and dictated the mood of their wedding. Playing with different textures in the florals and decorations, different, deep shades of red and an eclectic mix of gerberas, gloriosa, mokara, carnations, peonies, roses and calla lilies, gave the ambiance a formal but not-too-serious air.

Hi everyone! We have a new wedding to share with you today. Thank you so very much to Dolly and David for sharing your big day with us, and to the ever-talented Jim Liaw for the wonderful pictures.

One of the things that makes our job interesting and keeps us on our toes is re-interpreting popular colour themes that are classic and timeless. For Dolly and David, they chose the ever elegant matte gold and cream for their wedding reception at The Westin Kuala Lumpur. The style - Grecian with a modern twist!

Their wedding planner, Shen Yi of I Do Weddings, was entrusted with the planning and given a free hand in all things flowers and decor... so all we had to do was surprise them with our creations, which we absolutely love doing! The ultimate reward is seeing the look of joy, wonder and excitement on the faces of our bride and groom and their guests.

Our bride carried a simple bouquet of gorgeous white phalaenopsis, which looked anything but simple! The sheer size, shape and texture of the beautiful flowers was perfection against the clean lines of her Carven Ong gown. The ballroom at The Westin was a sight to behold as the lights dimmed and candles were lit. Using white phalaenopsis, dendrobium and carnations, we created centerpieces and standing arrangements in an "organic" flourish instead of the usual, more structured arrangements. Glass vases and gold candles lent an elegant air to the evening.

The highlight of our interpretation of "Grecian" with a modern twist is the gold leaves used in abundance thoughout the ballroom. Our crafty creative director, Adrian, in a moment of brilliance came up with the idea of spraying our eucalyptus leaves matte gold! The result: "Everyone loved the decor so much that they remember it to this day! It definitely made an impact." - Shen Yi

So you've seen Part I and Part II of Andrew and Serena's wedding reception. Here are some pictures from a more "traditional" Chinese banquet for family and friends held at Hotel Equatorial Kuala Lumpur.

As you can see, we kept the pink theme, but this time using only roses and hydrangea. We also used white feathers and white branches for a more "wintry" ambiance in honour of Andrew and Serena's unforgettable wedding proposal (see Part II).

Real Wedding; Andrew and Serena, Part II

In our first post on Andrew and Serena's "friend's only" dinner reception at Sassorosso we showed you how pretty the venue looked in the daytime, with a crisp pink, green and soft gray palette. When the sun went down, the candles were lit, and people came to party.... it looks almost completely different (in the most marvelous way)!

So, so romantic! The glow from the candles beautifully lit up the floral arrangements and created a sparkly effect off the the glassware. We think the long table arrangements really helped maximize the lighting effects for the ambiance and photography.

One of things we love about Andrew and Serena's wedding is that they've managed to incorporate little things about themselves as a couple and their courtship into the details of their wedding, making it truly special and truly theirs.Did you notice the little favours on the plates? They were chocolates in mini zip-loc bags...and there's an awesome story to go with it!

Andrew and Serena love travelling and enjoy the outdoors very much. They are also avid skiers (which inspired their wedding cake). Before the wedding planning started, our couple decided to brave the world's highest mountain and climb it. Little did Serena know, Andrew was planning to propose to her on Mt Everest... with the diamond ring tucked safely in a mini zip-loc bag that he carried all the way up!! How romantic is that? :)

It may seem that we at Wishing Tree love creating big, bountiful arrangements that are both lush and luxurious - which is true :) - but we also love the beauty and elegance found in simple arrangements done up with a minimalist colour palette. For Andrew and Serena's wedding reception at Sassorosso, we were honoured with the opportunity and responsibility to create a cozy, intimate atmosphere for a dinner party with our couple's friends. We love the idea of a 'friends only' party!

Many thanks to the talented Poh Lin of I Do Weddings who planned the couple's wedding, and Yeh of WondrousVision, the photographer behind this affair and did a wonderful job capturing the elegance and simplicity of the evening.

Sassorosso is an Italian restaurant in the heart of Kuala Lumpur, with indoor and outdoor seating. Its contemporary setting was perfect for the arrangements we had in mind for Andrew and Serena. Described as "easily the coolest couple", they wanted something simple and elegant in colours that would appeal to both their feminine and masculine, so it was pink for Serena and and soft gray for Andrew. An excellent match to complement the venue's contemporary interior with clean lines, neutral shades and white linens!

Flowers for the tables consisted of pink tulips, pink cymbidiums and pink roses. Our bride also mentioned that she liked green very much, which was the main reason for choosing the imported tulips - the vivid, cheery green from the stems and leaves of the tulips was such a delight to see! Silvery gray candles were placed on the tables to be lit up as the sun went down. The effects were marvelous - as you will see in the next post.

You can probably guess why planning a wedding is rarely described as a "walk in the park" - have you seen 'The Wedding Planner' or 'Bride Wars'?? Our featured wedding of Anil and Elena not only contradicts the belief that planning a wedding is rarely smooth-sailing, but theirs has taken it to a whole new level. Imagine planning a church wedding and a dinner reception in Malaysia...while living in another country! A ray of hope and inspiration for us all!

Anil and Elena live in Australia, and their wedding in Kuala Lumpur was celebrated in pure style and sophistication that was reflection of their personalities and tastes as a couple. It can be done, dear readers, even with a guestlist of 300. It takes sheer courage to plan a wedding from afar, but when you're in the capable hands of their talented wedding planner Michelle Chow, we like to think that nothing is impossible with vision, dedication, communication, and of course, knowing the right people :)

From the start, Anil and Elena had already decided on a gold-and-ivory theme for their Christmastime wedding. It is classic and elegant.. and simply perfect for our beautiful couple! They kept the church decor simple and classy with white roses, while Elena carried a graceful bouquet of roses in champagne and white. The gorgeous blush palette is pure loveliness against her designer gown from Australia. Her bridesmaids (not pictured) carried bouquets of white eustoma and looked very pretty in their custom-designed champagne gold and ivory dresses by Pretty In White. We were suitably impressed when we found out that the bridesmaids, who all live abroad, only had their first fitting five days before the big day!

The dinner reception was a sight to behold, stunning and romantic in white with accents of gold. Since it was Christmas, we used the magic and warmth of the season as our guide. For the floral arrangements we used even more roses, with orchids, phalaenopsis and baby's breath - all in white, of course - and embellished with white feathers, gold beads, gold balls, crystal beads and gold candles. Michelle tells us that the air was thick with romance, even for the guests as they entered the ballroom, and the decor - especially for the main table - was the evening's topic of discussion! We are so pleased to be a part of our couple's most memorable day.

Our bride picked 'Vintage Boudoir' for a fun, flirty (sexy?!) yet opulent ambiance that we can't get enough of; it's just perfection!

We're feeling that 'Lady Marmalade' vibe! What about you?? We used lots of roses and hydrangea for the floral arrangements, but what made them work so well were the strings of black beads, the fuchsia feathers and the multitude of candles on the tables, in the centerpieces and in the aisle arrangements. To add more depth and dimension to the arrangements, we handcrafted accessories of miniature black and white flowers for the candles and tealight holders.

When the candles were lit and the ballroom's special lighting effects were switched on, Pink tells us that the atmosphere was pure magic and her guests were simply blown away! We are happily inclined to believe her! :)

Our bride tells us: "We had the PERFECT wedding day. Ivan and I had so much fun that we want to get married all over again!" And we at Wishing Tree will be ever so happy to decorate your wedding as many times as you wish to get married, haha... Thanks once again, Pink and Ivan!

Real Wedding: Pink and Ivan, Part I

Hi everyone! We have a STUNNING wedding to share with you this weekend! Thank you, Pink and Ivan, for allowing us to be a part of your big day, and to the talented Jim Liaw and his amazing team for the wonderful photos.

To quote style icon and fashion mogul Kimora Lee Simmons, this was "fabulosity" in the flesh! For a hint of what's to follow, here is an unforgettable photo by Jim Liaw Photography... one of our top favourites!

WOW... We're not ashamed to admit we are in love with this photo! From the colour and composition, to the gorgeous parasols (sourced in Singapore by Pink's maid-of-honour, Ai Wee) and especially our beautiful and sassy bride, it's easy to see why Jim's pièce de résistance was the talk of the entire wedding. We adore the vintage-chic mood of the photo with the vividly-coloured Chinese parasols and Pink's strands of pearls - oh, how stylish! Pink fell in love with Jim's work when he photographed her friend's wedding 5-6 years ago, and knew immediately that she "must have" him for her own wedding. This must be a match made in wedding photography heaven, because it has always been Jim's dream to photograph a wedding with parasols!

Pink and Ivan wanted a 'Midsummer's Romance' theme for their garden wedding at the legendary Carcosa Seri Negara in Kuala Lumpur a few weeks ago, and decided on the colour palette from the very start of the planning process. We decorated this adaptation of Shakespeare's 'A Midsummer Night's Dream' using a colour palette of fuchsia pink and white, in honour of our bride's name and the corporate colours of the groom's company, which is fuchsia pink and white. A touch of black was added for a fashionable edge. So chic! Are you ready to soak in the style, fashion, colours and fabulosity of Pink and Ivan's wedding??

The florals for the wedding were simple. Just beautiful, luscious roses everywhere! For added texture and colour, we also used baby's breath, vivid green chrysanthemum pompoms and pink chrysanthemums, and dressed everything up with pink satin ribbons and crystal beads. The wedding theme was really put-together with the fashion, colours, props and accessories, and if that's not absolutely flawless enough, the wedding cake was PERFECT! From the black design on white icing, to the white anemones with black centres, Pink and Ivan really had their cake and ate it too :) It was a gift from Pink's sister-in-law, Carol, who had it custom-made by The Blooming Cake.

We really love the unique style and personalities of our couple that dictated the mood and ambiance of the wedding, making it a day to be truly treasured forever. Real Wedding: Jacqueline and Elvis, Part II

A continuation from our previous post brings us to Jacqueline and Elvis' evening reception held at Lafite in Shangri-La Kuala Lumpur.

With their taste for contemporary style, it was no surprise that they chose to throw an intimate cocktail reception at one of the most renowned fine-dining restaurants in the city. How intimate? Try a guestlist of only 180 very close family members and friends! Jacqueline and Elvis wanted a location with an undoubtedly contemporary ambiance, and Lafite offered the perfect atmosphere with structured arrangements and modern, minimalist interior design. Our challenge was to complement the modern decor with a warm and inviting mood...

Jacqueline and Elvis like a clean, minimalist decor, so we kept it simple, elegant and classy with glass vases and their favourite white calla lilies. We also used bunches of purple eustoma for a touch of feminine romance and lots of candles for a warm, dreamy glow. Calla lilies were strung up for the main reception area - love that "dancing flowers" effect!

After the party, we were told that the cocktail reception was a real hit with the guests. It wasn't your conventional formal sit-down dinner with hundreds of guests who would normally only mingle with other guests at the same table. Here, Jacqueline and Elvis played the perfect hosts at a casual (and stylish!) affair where everyone mingled freely and had a great time. We give this idea for a wedding reception two thumbs waaaay up! :)

Real Wedding: Jacqueline and Elvis, Part I

Here's a wedding from last October that we absolutely have to share because it was such a unique and true reflection of our couple's personality, taste and values. From the colour palette to the fashion, wedding venues and size of the guestlist, Jacqueline and Elvis knew exactly what they wanted to make their big day an absolutely perfect one.

Their wedding planner, Shen Yi of I Do Weddings, describes our couple as modern with strong, confident personalities, who are well-travelled and love their food, fashion, family and friends. We definitely see a unique couple with modern tastes yet upholds traditional values that are important to them. Jacqueline and Elvis were married at the Church of the Holy Rosary in Kuala Lumpur, in an intimate ceremony before 80 close family members and friends.

Our couple loves strong, bold colours, and Jacqueline's favorite colour is purple - symbolic of deep passion, royalty, spirit and mysticism - which became the main inspiration for the wedding's purple and cream colour theme. The bridesmaids were dressed in elegant purple gowns and the tall pew arrangements that lined the aisle comprised of fresh purple eustoma. The tall pew arrangements were Jacqueline's suggestion after she had seen something similiar on the Internet and thought it was a novel idea for a striking yet classy ambiance - and we agree! Both Elvis and Jacqueline love calla lillies for its elegance and simplicity, which we placed near the altar for a clean and classy decor. For a bit of variety, we created Jacqueline's bouquet with blue agapanthus, rose spray and wax flowers wrapped in luxurious black velvet, black feathers and a diamante buckle - how stylish and chic!

Jacqueline was sexy and gorgeous in a Jason Yek gown - just look at that layered train, so glamourous! Elvis totally complemented his bride's style by looking very sharp in his bespoke suit made in Hong Kong.

Real Wedding: Gwen and Adrian

We absolutely love a wedding that is bursting with personality, and we are excited to share today's featured wedding of fun-loving couple, Gwen and Adrian. They held their November 2008 nuptials at Avillion Port Dickson, right on the beach. It was pure loveliness in a stylish, casual chic style draped in white with accents of fuchsia pink, deep purple and black.

Gwen and Adrian were impeccably dressed and their look was really pulled together with the right colours and accessories. Our lovely bride looked incredibly stylish in a simple yet stunning one-shoulder goddess gown by Khoon Hooi while Adrian was cool and dapper in a gray Rossi suit from Singapore. Perfect for an equally stylish beach wedding.

The couple worked with Shen Yi of I Do Weddings for a fun and fabulous weekend. So fun and fabulous you'd wish you were on the guest list! In addition to a 48-hour open bar with a "Gwen hearts Adrian" custom neon sign, vodka jello shots (that the couple is known for) and free-flowing champagne, there was also a photobooth for guests to have their pictures taken by a photographer and printed in 15 minutes and - something their guests will never forget - a Ramly Burger stall in the middle of their after-party! Come to think of it, neither will we :)

An interesting bit about our bride is that she's not really into flowers. This was a bit unusual for us, you know, since we are floral designers after all. But she does love chic and flirty. What an excellent opportunity to play with props! For the wedding dinner's centerpieces, the arrangements consisted of glass balls, feathers and white roses - the only type of flower used - piled onto custom-made acrylic boxes in pink, black and deep purple. Gwen's bouquet was the one single arrangement with the most number of flowers, featuring a refreshing splash of colour and happiness. Just look at the bright hues of red, fuchsia, yellow and a hint of green!

For the separate chill-out lounge area set up for the after-party, floor mats, low tables and brightly-coloured pillows were placed on the beach where guests mingled and had a great time singing, dancing, drinking and eating till way past midnight. What a party! With chandeliers, crystal beads, feathers, lanterns, disco balls and lots of candles, it felt like a real private club right on the beach - Adrian and Gwen "absolutely loved" the decor!

Real Wedding: Sit Yin & Chee Kian

Say hello to our first 'Real Wedding' couple - Sit Yin and Chee Kian! Congratulations again on your marriage, and thanks for sharing your wedding on our blog. Our deepest gratitude goes to Michelle, the couple's wedding consultant, and to Zung of The Photoz for the beautiful pictures!

Sit Yin and Chee Kian tied the knot this past December, in an intimate garden wedding at the bride's family home in Petaling Jaya. They decided to hold their wedding near Christmas and during the holiday period since it was a more relaxed time, and especially so that friends and family living abroad were able to witness their marriage. They chose a garden wedding for pretty much the same reasons - the garden wedding would provide a laid-back, comfortable atmosphere while also creating a family type ambience for their 150 family members and close friends. We love that Sit Yin and Chee Kian place so much emphasis on family and the people who obviously mean the world to them.

For the outdoor wedding ceremony, we kept it simple but elegant and refreshing with a white and green palette to complement the lush green of the garden and the chic, green colour of the bridesmaids' dresses. Does anyone know what colour that is?? The three bridesmaids carried little bundles of white roses wrapped in satin ribbon, while Sit Yin's bridal bouquet was white and green with hints of deep orange and yellow - simple, elegant and stunning! It looked just perfect with the bride's wedding gown by Carven Ong, who also dressed the bridesmaids. And how chic is her wedding cake by Alan of Just Heavenly?? We love it! He did a marvelous job custom-creating the cake that was inspired by the wedding invitation.

Sit Yin and Chee Kian may have kept it simple and elegant in the morning, but oh did they bring on the drama at the wedding dinner!

They couldn't have chosen a more perfect time for a White Christmas wedding! A white winter theme, with the love, joy and warmth of the Christmas season, in the midst of the roses, ribbons, crystal beads, baby's breath, feather balls and the warm glow of candlelight throughout the The Westin's ballroom. Of course, the magical evening was nothing short of romantic too!

Sit Yin described her wedding in five words: Simple. Fun. Relaxed. Memorable. Blessed. We second that! We also received a note from our lovely bride (getting post-wedding notes from our clients always puts a little spring in our step!):

We just got the picture to share! Jane, our supervisor, and her husband Tien En couldn't have celebrated the new year in a more perfect way. On January 1, 2009, they welcomed healthy and adorable Baby Ning into the world. Congratulations Jane and Tien En!!!

Baby Ning was born in Kuala Lumpur, measuring 49 cm and weighing in at 3.75 kg (that's 8.23 lbs!)... that's just her weight in cuteness, we're sure! She joins big brother Zheng and big sister Xin, and we welcome her to the Wishing Tree family :)

Chinese New Year giveaways

There is an auspicious Chinese saying "Hua kai fu gui" which means prosperity and wealth at the arrival of flower blooms. We can't think of a more appropriate occasion to present just blooming flowering plants to our clients, can you?

The azaleas (top row) are specially imported from Belgium and are just beginning to bloom. They will look absolutely amazing when the fuchsia pink flowers cover the entire plant! They also came in vivid purple. The oncidium twinkle (middle row) is a miniature orchid from the "Dancing Lady" family that grows to about 6-8 inches tall. It may be small, but it sure has a big personality with its profuse flowering and the most fragrant smell of vanilla and spice. This export quality orchid is grown in Malaysia (from imported seeds), but is mostly reserved for export to Japan and South Korea.

Seriously, how cute are the hyacinth bulbs (bottom row, left) from Holland?? These measure 5-6 inches tall and fit perfectly in our tealight holders. The florets haven't fully grown yet, and when they do, they really are stunning. One more for orchid lovers is the phalaenopsis imported from Taiwan. These are different from regular phalaenopsis because of their spots, and are long-lasting too.

We delivered some 60 pots to our hotelier clients and some of our most important customers - we hope you enjoy the flowers during this festive season, with much prosperity throughout the new year!

DIY: Chinese New Year table decor

The Chinese Lunar New Year is just around the corner with less than three weeks to go! Are you as excited as we are?? If you love decorating your home or office and haven't done so, here's a decor idea you can do on your own for not a lot of money... and minimum manual labour. This is also a wonderful little project to do with friends and family, and we'll bet your children would enjoy it too! Or at the very least, keep them out of mischief for a few hours :)

Here's what you need:

1. Glass bottles / tall vases
2. Gold-coloured wire
3. Red glitter
4. Boat-shaped "gold" tael bars
5. Limes
6. Gold-coloured Chinese New Year symbols such as or 'choy' or 'fook'
7. Your favourite long-stemmed flowers (enough for your vases and to scatter on the table)

Bottle collectors, it's time to put your hobby to good use! We had a collection of limited edition bottled water at our disposal, which happens to be a beautiful shade of red and just the right colour for Chinese New Year. But please feel free to choose a different colour!

The gold-coloured wire is easily found in florist shops or hardware stores, while the gold tael bars and red glitter can be found in stationery shops or places that sell home decor items. Silver or copper wires will work just as well with this concept, but there's nothing like good ol' gold for the Chinese New year!

For our flowers, we've chosen the gloriosa, which is a type of lily. You may use other flowers, of course, but choose one that is a little more hardy and long-lasting than, let's say, the rose. A flower with a bit of "flourish" (or "drama" if you will) is great for this look.

These Chinese New Year stickers are really handy! Use big ones or small ones, and use as many as you like. The children will LOVE helping you out with this! Remember, there are no rules when it comes to stickers...

Coil the wire around the bottle - any way you like! We just covered the top few inches of the bottle and let the rest hang out. It doesn't have to be neat, and the best part - you don't need glue for this! The wire will coil easily around the bottle since it came in a coil at the store, so it will already be all curly-wurly. Just tuck in the ends when you're done, to avoid scrapes and scratches.

Carefully put the stem of your flower through the loops of the wire until it is secure. If you like, you can even put two or three flowers in there.

To make sure that our flower doesn't move around too much, notice that we've coiled the wire a little narrower at the top. But if you have more than one flower in the bottle, you could loosen the coils a bit more. But just a bit!

When you've dressed up as many bottles as you like, it's time to dress up the table. Didn't we tell you this was so much fun to do?? Arrange the gold taels, limes and extra flowers in neat piles, then add a little more here and there. We like a little structure to our handicraft, but at the same time don't want to make it look like it was too carefully thought-out. For the grand finale, sprinkle the red glitter over the items! We hope you bought the thickly-cut kind, because fine glitter will easily get blown everywhere and get stuck on everything... and we mean e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. An alternative is to use sequins!

We hope you enjoy this little "Do-It-Yourself" table arrangement for the festive season. The beauty of this project is that it can be customized for any occasion with different colours, flowers and decorative items, or whether you use one or ten vases. Now just sit back, relax and admire your lovely (and inexpensive) Chinese New Year decor!

We've been a bit nervous to delve into the world of blogging, but with helpful encouragement from friends and clients we decided it was the right time, especially since Wishing Tree is turning ten really soon. How quickly time flies when you're having fun doing the things you love most! Our blog was created to mark this happy milestone and to usher in the start of something new, fresh and unique for us... and for you, our dear friends, clients, and readers. Having said that, The Wishing Tree Blog will be our online journal of sorts and a communication tool for Wishing Tree. It will be...

Does Wishing Tree decorate events and weddings outside the Klang Valley?
Yes we do! We have decorated weddings in Seremban, Ipoh, Penang, Langkawi... even as far as Kuching, Sarawak!

Is there a minimum fee for customized wedding decor?
We do not usually apply minimum charges for customized weddings as we cater specifically to your requirements and budget. However, charges will differ for different locations, for example, a church wedding decor can start from RM1,000 and other venues from RM2,500.

If I choose to have only one type of flower for my wedding, will that help to reduce the cost for my wedding decorations?
It would be safe to say "yes" since a substantial part of the budget goes to purchasing the flowers, be it local or imported flowers. However, the amount of reduced cost is subjective as you will have to make up for the quantity of the particular type of flower used.

Can I reuse the flowers for one wedding venue in a second venue?
Definitely! While there is a minimal charge for transportation to the second location, we will provide a touch-up for free! But please bear in mind that the flowers may not appear so fresh the second time around, considering our hot and humid weather.

Does Wishing Tree charge a fee for design concepts?
We do not. In fact, we provide consultation, coordination and planning at no extra charge.

How many consultations am I allowed, and is there a maximum number?
In our 10 years, we usually get it right in the first or second round :) We do not fix a limit for number of consultations.

I've heard that Wishing Tree only uses imported flowers. Can I use local flowers instead and how will that affect my costs?
It is not true that we only use imported flowers, although we do prefer to use them for the simple fact that local flowers do not offer much variety. Using local blooms may reduce costs by 20-30%.

Wishing Tree seems to have a reputation for being expensive. Why is that?
We've heard this many times before! But our clients assure us that our prices are very competitive and great value for money; we can custom-design a wedding or event for a minimum of RM2,000 that looks fabulous.
