Petter and Deborah are elegant romantic with a monochromatic palette and a pop of pastel

We have a gorgeous wedding for you, dear readers! Petter and Deborah held a truly memorable wedding in Kuala Lumpur several months ago, and we are honoured to have been a part of their special day.

Many thanks to Alan Yong of The Photoz for the wonderful photos!

giant flower pom poms, floating pom poms, monochromatic, garden wedding
Beautiful family portrait framed with giant flower pom poms floating overhead.
Aren't those giant pom poms dramatic, romantic and elegant at the same time? The venue was the little garden at St Mary's Cathedral, right here in Kuala Lumpur. For their wedding decor, our beautiful bride and her groom searched for inspiration on the Internet (hello Pinterest!) and in many wedding magazines before deciding on what suited them best. We love their choice of the monochromatic palette with just enough colour - light pinks and greens - for a supremely tasteful and stylish theme.

Gorgeous Deborah with her maid-of-honour and bridesmaids, holding pastel bouquets wrapped in black and white striped ribbon. Monochromatic done right!
Petter and Deborah came to know of us through two of Deborah's family members, whose weddings we had the pleasure and honour of decorating. In Deborah's words, we were a "tried and tested choice" for them! Our couple, however, live in Singapore, so most the planning and coordinating was done with the help of wedding planner Patricia Chan, and through the wonders of modern technology, e-mail and Whatsapp. For the duration of the wedding planning, we only met our bride twice in the nine months!

We love a bride who has an idea about what she would like for her wedding, and Deborah had a very clear idea about what she wanted. There were some constraints, unfortunately, regarding flowers that weren't in season, suitability and cost, but her ideas worked wonderfully even with the changes. Deborah had a selection of flowers in mind and chose peonies, hydrangeas and eustomas as main flowers for the arrangements.

What a lovely idea to give different bouquets to the elder and younger bridesmaids. We like that the ribbon accents also contribute to the bouquets that look so age-appropriate.

Thank you once again, Petter and Deborah, for sharing your special day with us and with our readers. We send you our warmest and best wishes for your new journey together.
"We dealt with many suppliers and vendors during the course of our wedding. We have to say that Wishing Tree proved to offer one of the most professional and outstanding services we experienced in KL, beating several international companies we worked with. Their hard work and patience as well as pride in their services really made our wedding day a magical and special one for everyone, with their beautiful flowers and decorations etched in our memories." - Deborah

Sean and Fika's "modern vintage" inspiration at Villa Danieli, Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur

Congratulations, dear Sean and Fika! We are honoured to have been a part of big day held in Kuala Lumpur earlier this year. Thank you for sharing your wedding with us and our readers!

 photo 020_zpse99edbbd.jpg
A bright centerpiece for the bridal table adds much cheer to the ambience.

Over the past few years we have been seeing an increase of wedding receptions being held in nice restaurants, in addition to the norm of having them in hotel ballrooms. Restaurants are perfect for smaller, more intimate weddings if you're not inviting hundreds of guests. We enjoy decorating weddings for both types of venues but there's definitely a little more challenge with restaurants as their identities play a huge role in shaping our design inspiration. Things to take into account are the architecture, interior design, ambience, even its energy.

We can't wait to show you Sean and Fika's beautiful wedding reception in Villa Danieli, photographed by the talents at The Photoz and organized by the wonderful wedding planners, Natasha and Sharon of The Peak Xperience.

Fika has always loved the rustic feel of old Italian buildings and decor while Sean likes all things vintage, so our couple came up with "modern vintage" for their wedding theme. Neither of them wanted a big, ballroom wedding, and with a guest list of about 120 of their closest family and friends, they wanted a warm, inviting and intimate reception. Villa Danieli at Sheraton Imperial Kuala Lumpur couldn't have been a more perfect venue for this wedding, wouldn't you agree?

 photo 018_zps659c8b70.jpg

Villa Danieli is an award-winning restaurant styled after a trattoria, with a warm, inviting interior. We chose a complementary colour palette of pale yellow, pale pink and white blooms, using Fika's guidelines for "pale versions of bright coloured flowers", which was what we would have also chosen given the rich colours and dark furniture of the venue. The glow of candle light through out the venue made the evening very atmospheric and romantic.

 photo 002_zpse5d619dd.jpg

Going with the rustic ambience of Villa Danieli, we used rectangular, wooden boxes filled with roses, hydrangea and silver leaf for some of the floral arrangements. These were perfect for the long guest tables and dividers in the restaurant, not forgetting, a nice complement to the glass vases for the other floral arrangements.

The bridal table was cosy and circular, so we created a simple and lush centerpiece consisting of several low arrangements in glass vases, encircled with candles of different shapes and heights.

Textures abound in this modern vintage wedding reception! From guest tables to decor, tableware to the wedding cake, it was a feast for the senses no matter where you were seated. The beautiful and elegant cake was baked by Man Kwan of Passionate Cakes.

 photo 016_zpscd4106dc.jpg

We love this little alcove in the restaurant, featuring a long table with low pendant lamps and lots of dark wood. Here, we kept the floral decor to a minimum considering the multitude of textures and dark colours, while not blocking the view of guests seated on the inside of the alcove.

Once again, many thanks to our wonderful couple Sean and Fika. We had a great time decorating your wedding, and we wish you all the best on your new journey in life together. Fika and Sean sent us a message, which we would like to share:
"When we had a first look into the venue, before the reception started, our jaws dropped open! The decor was high above our expectations and truly made our wedding dreams. Our guests were also dazzled by the beauty. Lily and her team understood our vision and made it reality. Thank you so much, Lily and team, for helping make our dream wedding come true; we will remember this evening for years to come."

Julius and Katherine's colourful garden wedding at Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa

Congratulations, Julius and Katherine on your nuptials and for pulling off such a fun daytime wedding ceremony. With the expertise of their wedding planner Natasha from The Peak Xperience and master photographer Jim from JLP, this was surely a wedding to remember.

It's been a while since we decorated a wedding themed after a movie. Like Benjamin and Clarine's wedding, styled after 'Alice in Wonderland' and 'Avatar', Henry and Joveyn's 'Avatar' inspired evening and Pink and Ivan's 'Moulin Rouge' vintage boudoir. It is a great way to come up with a wedding theme if the bride and groom to be share favorite movies or shows. Pick one that both of you love, and run with the ideas!

What do you think Julius and Katherine chose for their garden wedding theme?

 photo Katherine-amp-Julius-6004_zps6b0174a4.jpg
A colorful garden wedding in the tropics features balloons and pomanders with yellow daisy, rose spray and white freesia.
The venue of this lovely garden wedding was Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa in Cyberjaya. Their inspiration: the Pixar animated film 'Up'! We love the use of balloons against a lush, green backdrop of Malaysia's tropical outdoors. But be sure to use colours from the same palette as your wedding theme!

An indoors section was set up for guests to register and enjoy some light refreshments while browsing pre-wedding photographs.

Pink, yellow, orange and purple gerberas for colorful tabletop posies.
We created tabletop posies in the same theme as the garden set up, in light pink, dark pink, purple, yellow and orange gerberas. Table arrangements don't have to be big to make their presence felt, just interesting and unique. A little bit of height makes a big difference if the arrangements are small.

The bridal bouquet is a bright pop of colour, featuring roses, rose spray and freesia.
Katherine's bright bridal bouquet stayed true to the wedding theme, featuring a pop of colour from the roses, rose spray and freesia. This was actually Katherine's second bouquet as the first one was used in the morning and had withered a little by the time this garden ceremony took place.

Just a little advice to wedding planners, brides, or friends and family responsible for the flowers: do keep our hot and humid weather in mind especially if you are holding your wedding outdoors, or if your wedding day involves a long day of being outdoors. Keep a backup bouquet on hand, or at least be able to hustle one up quickly when a second bouquet is required for later in the day.

Cherry blossoms frame the entrance to the garden wedding.
Cyberview Lodge Resort & Spa provided the cherry blossoms used to decorate the entrance into the garden wedding venue. It looks very pretty, doesn't it?

After the wedding ceremony in the garden, the wedding party moved indoors. Our couple wanted a an elegant and romantic evening for their guests and themselves to enjoy while sitting back and relaxing, so they requested a simple and classic decor with Tiffany Blue and white for the colour theme.

The base of the centerpiece arrangement features mirrored boxes, white calla lilies and hydrangea, white candles and silver beaded candle holders.
When the lights were turned down, the ballroom became quite a feast for the senses. There is simply no equal to the warm glow of candle light when it comes to creating romantic ambiences.

It is in the little details that make a great centerpiece amazing.

Thank you so much, Julius and Katherine for sharing the most important day of your life with us and our readers! May your new life together be filled with much love, wonder and adventure.

A note from Julius and Katherine:
"We were initially very worried about the budget and the distance we had to travel for the meeting with Wishing Tree since we were residing some distance away from the venue. However, Lily and her team were able to accommodate our needs and to provide the best service despite the difficulty in meeting up. Ultimately, the wedding was beautifully designed. We are pleased to have engaged Lily and her team and have no regrets at all. Thank you so much!"

Real Wedding: Justin and Kimberley

A cultural chic wedding in Malaysia's tropical outdoors

Our heartiest congratulations to Justin and Kimberley! Our lovely couple celebrated their love and marriage with family and friends in an intimate wedding at Gita Bayu in Seri Kembangan. Thank you for choosing Wishing Tree as your wedding decorator for such a treasured occasion, we are truly honoured to be a part of your big day.

Many thanks to Mun Keat for the amazing photos.

 photo img_080_zps10c790c1.jpg

Justin and Kimberley decided to plan the wedding on their own, without a wedding planner, so it was crucial that coordination with the vendors went without a hitch. Keeping the wedding venue's lush and tropical greenery in mind, our couple wanted the atmosphere of the event to be bright, colourful and cheerful, while keeping the decor basic and unfussy. Kimberley also requested that only local flowers were used, which we were most happy to oblige.

 photo img_087_zpsd6a5cbf5.jpg

Parasols came up in our discussions! We love the use of parasols in wedding decorations, especially in an outdoor setting. Wishing Tree provided the parasols and chose to use colours that matched Kimberley's bridesmaids' outfits.

 photo img_094_zps34c915a3.jpg

How do we love Kimberley's idea for her bridesmaids' outfits? How cultural and chic! The use of colourful batik sarongs, Chinese parasols and fans were absolutely perfect for the beautiful and lush Malaysian outdoors, and of course, very weather appropriate. For our non-Malaysian readers, the weather is here is pretty much hot and humid throughout the year.

Big smiles all around as Justin watches Kimberley walk down the aisle. Her bridal bouquet was an elegant cascading bouquet, bursting with lush white phalaenopsis orchids.

A variety of local orchids, baby's breath, Taiwan ivy and water candle stems complete the custom-made parasol arch for a picture perfect lakeside wedding.

Thank you letting us be a part of your wedding, dear Justin and Kimberley. Congratulations, once again, and warmest wishes from all of us at Wishing Tree!

A note from Kimberley:
"I loved working with Lily and her team. The experience was fun and easy, the drawings were fantastic and the designs perfectly fit my concepts. On the day, the venue looked fantastic and the photos have turned out great!"

Real Wedding: Simon and Joanna

Classic and romantic at Carcosa Seri Negara

Our gorgeous bride Joanna and her husband Simon recently held their wedding in tropical Malaysia at the ever-elegant Carcosa Seri Negara, Kuala Lumpur. Living in Australia made the wedding planning a little less convenient, but Joanna pulled it off as her own wedding planner. And what a beautiful wedding it was!

A big thank you to photographer extraordinaire Edwin Tan for his wonderful photographs!

 photo etp20120920_3019_zpsd9e7d205.jpg

Joanna's bridal bouquet in pastel elegance, with pink ranunculus, green hydrangea, white phalaenopsis and roses in soft pink and white.

Thank you, Simon and Joanna, for choosing us to be a part of your big day, and letting us share this treasured occasion on our blog. Our bride describes their wedding as romantic, elegant and classical without being old fashioned and over-the-top as "Aussies are rather understated". We are sure many of our readers will be inspired to see how an understated wedding can look classically elegant and absolutely memorable.

 photo edwintan_0330_zps87254f47.jpg
 photo edwintan_0331_zps5cc13d39.jpg

For her bridal party and bridesmaids, Joanna ordered some pretty wrist corsages and simple yet elegant hand bouquets. The wrist corsages featured light pink cymbidium, bright pink rose spray and white wax, while the bridesmaids bouquets consisted of two shades of pink roses wrapped in pale pink satin ribbon.

Simon and Joanna met with us, together with Edwin, about a year prior to their wedding to discuss details and other important matters. Joanna played a big role in the details of the decor, even providing us with a 4-page document! Yet she left us to make recommendations to suit our hot, humid climate, as well as to suit their favorite colors of white, peach, coral and other pastel colors.

We have to admit, we love a bride who knows what she wants -- or at least be able to give us as much information as possible, so we can do our job the best we can and help make wedding dreams come true. This is one of the most important aspects of the planning process and any bit of detail helps.

 photo edwintan_0337_zps5211a513.jpg

For the reception, a simple and lush arrangement of green hydrangea, shades of pink roses, white phalaenopsis orchids and silver leaves.

One of the features of Simon and Joanna's wedding was this floral arch at the entrance of Carcosa's famous lawn. Simple, white bird cages filled with shades of pink roses, white matthiola and china berries, together with clear glass baubles and lace ribbons greeted guests and provided a lovely backdrop for many beautiful photos.

The wedding reception was held indoors at Carcosa Seri Negara. As it was an intimate occasion in a not-too-large space, we kept the floral decor small and low.

 photo etp20120915_1051_zps9cc61640.jpg photo edwintan_0342_zps3cc5d297.jpg
 photo edwintan_0332_zpsa22ba864.jpg

Many arrangements lined the lengths of the long tables. Using small and simple vases, we filled them with pink hydrangea, mariam pink roses, lady pink roses and white eustoma. We love the elegance of Joanna and Simon's all-white wedding cake, surrounded by a thick wreath of baby's breath. (Cake created by Delectable by Su, while Wishing Tree provided the baby's breath.)

 photo etp20120915_1451_zpsb1b0dd9f.jpg

We always love hearing from our brides and receiving notes from them after the excitement of a wedding. Our lovely Joanna sent us an encouraging testimonial for our blog:
"Wishing Tree delivered above and beyond. Lily was professional and thorough during the planning process -- this was very important for us as I only met Lily once, and everything else was done via email. The execution on the day was immaculate -- everything was delivered on time and to the highest standard possible. The theme was exactly and better than what I had asked for. I highly recommend Wishing Tree. Should I have any other major events in Malaysia again, I shall be contacting Lily as I know she can make my visions come to reality."

Thank you once again, Simon and Joanna. Our best wishes to you always, and have a wonderful new journey together!
